Reigning Big 12 postseason champion Baylor and Texas Tech will start the 2013 season ranked in the preseason NSCAA/Continental Tire rankings.

Coming off a record-breaking 2012 season, Baylor begins 2013 ranked No. 13. The defending Big 12 champions return 22 players from last year’s team that notched a program-best 19-1-5 record and reached the Sweet Sixteen. The Big 12 coaches tabbed BU third in the 2013 Big 12 preseason poll and recognized midfielders Bri Campos and Kat Ludlow with preseason All-Big 12 honors.

The Red Raiders come in at No. 24 in the NSCAA preseason rankings. After a program-best third place finish in the Big 12 a year ago, Texas Tech appeared in the school’s first NCAA Tournament. TTU placed second in the Big 12 preseason poll and returns eight starters including preseason All-Big 12 forward Janine Beckie and defender Jaelene Hinkle.

Outside of the top-25, West Virginia is one of 15 teams receiving votes. In its inaugural Big 12 campaign, WVU clinched the conference regular season title and appeared in the program’s 13th consecutive NCAA Tournament. The Mountaineers return nine starters, 12 letterwinners and a conference-high five preseason All-Big 12 selections. WVU topped the Big 12 preseason poll with seven first place votes.

All nine Big 12 teams open the 2013 season on August 23.
