Oklahoma State and West Virginia, picked to finish as the top two teams in the Big 12 this year by the league's coaches, each had an athlete named to the 2012 Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy Watch List.

OSU All-American goalkeeper Adrianna Franch and WVU defender Bry McCarthy were among the 38 athletes recognized on the list.

Franch, a Salina, Kan., native, was named to the 2012 Preseason All-Big 12 Team and earned All-Big 12 First Team recognition for the 2011 season. The OSU senior was a semifinalist for the Hermann Trophy in both 2010 and 2011. McCarthy, an NSCAA All-Northeast Region First Team selection last year, was also a Preseason All-Big 12 selection for the upcoming campaign.

The MAC Herman Trophy is the highest individual award in intercollegiate soccer presented annually in January during a banquet at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.

The list will be narrowed down by NSCAA members from Division I programs to 15 semifinalists by Nov. 29. Member coaches and fans will then vote for their top three choices and the finalists will be announced Dec. 6. The winners will be announced at the awards banquet at the Missouri Athletic Club Jan.11.

Big 12 teams open the soccer season this weekend, with the first set of games slated for Friday, Aug.17.
