Frances Silva (West Virginia), Bry McCarthy (West Virginia) and Abby Smith (Texas) have earned Big 12 Soccer Weekly accolades for games played from Sept. 21-23. This is the first career recognition for all three student-athletes and the second time this season that two winners have come from the same institution.

Offensive Player of the Week
Frances Silva, West Virginia, Jr., F, Overland Park, Kan.
The junior scored three goals, including both game-winners, and currently leads the league in goals scored with eight. She is tied for the Big 12 lead in points with teammate Kate Schwindel. Against Texas Tech, Silva gave the Mountaineers an early 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute and later connected on the game-winner on a penalty kick after being taken down in the box. Silva scored her second straight game-winning goal in WVU's upset win over No. 7 Oklahoma State. She has scored seven goals in the last four matches, and became the first Mountaineer to score multiple goals in three consecutive games. West Virginia is 5-0-0 this season when Silva scores a goal.

Defensive Player of the Week
Bry McCarthy, West Virginia, Sr., D, Ajax, Ontario, Canada
McCarthy helped WVU to the school's first league wins, assisting on Mallory Smith's goal to give WVU a 2-0 lead over Texas Tech. She got forward into the attack and took three shots on the weekend, including a shot off the crossbar against OSU. The senior helped record WVU's fifth shutout of the season against No. 7 Oklahoma State, allowing only three shots on-goal against the defending Big 12 champion Cowgirls. OSU's offense was held to season lows in shots and shots on-goal, and WVU did not allow a single corner kick. McCarthy worked all 180 weekend minutes.

Newcomer of the Week
Abby Smith, Texas, Fr., GK, Plano, Texas
Smith blanked Iowa State in her Big 12 Conference debut, becoming the first Longhorn to record a shutout in the league opener since Dianna Pfenninger against Texas A&M on Sept. 26, 2008, in a 0-0 draw. Smith finished the match against the Cyclones with four saves. Sunday at Oklahoma, Smith again posted a shutout, making two saves in the process. The back-to-back Big 12 blankings are the first for Texas since Oct. 10 and 15, 2010. Smith's performance helped Texas improve to 2-0-0 in league action for the first time since 2006.
