Baylor Wins Big 12 Soccer Championship
SAN ANTONIO - Baylor forward Dana Larsen set up a pair of goals and midfielder Hanna Gilmore scored a pair to lead the Bears to their first Big 12 Conference Soccer Championship in a 4-1 victory over TCU on Sunday.

The second-seeded Bears (17-1-4) have earned the Big 12's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.

Larsen will be one of the hottest players in the event since she scored six points in the three-match Big 12 tournament at Blossom Soccer Stadium. She dumped a pass back to defender Selby Polley in the 19th minute for a clear shot from about 25 yards that sailed past TCU goalkeeper Vittoria Arnold. It was the first goal in regulation play that Arnold had let get past her this week.

And when Gilmore kicked in Larsen's try on the rebound in the 52nd minute, the Bears were up 2-0.

The eighth-seeded Horned Frogs cut it to a one-goal game when Monica Alvarado's pass from right of the box cleared the goal mouth and was headed in from about eight yards out by Lindsy Schafer in the 74th minute.

But with Larsen resting on the bench, the Bears closed it out. Gilmore scored again in the 80th minute (her sixth of the season), and Larissa Campos added another one less than a minute later.

The Horned Frogs (7-10-4) were the first No. 8 seed to advance to the conference final since 2003. That fact, and TCU's victory over top-seeded West Virginia in the opening round, will be where the Frogs will hang their hat for an at-large bid in the NCAAs.

But the Frogs ran out of gas against an active Baylor squad that put on the pressure early. The Bears placed four shots on goal to TCU's one in the first half, and used nine substitutes to TCU's two in the first half when the temperature climbed into the low 80s on a warm, sun-filled day.

The Frogs missed four regulars to injuries, the latest player to go down being midfielder Bobbi Clemmer with a leg injury on Friday. Clemmer had two corner-kick assists in the 2-0 victory over West Virginia on Wednesday.

In addition their first Big 12 soccer championship, the Bears actually were making their first appearance in the final match since the tournament started in 1996.
