Four Big 12 women’s soccer student-athletes were recognized by Top Drawer Soccer.com as members of their annual Preseason Best XI teams.
Jaelene Hinkle (Texas Tech) and Kadeisha Buchanan (West Virginia) were both listed with first team honors, while Abby Smith (Texas) secured a third team accolade. West Virginia’s Michaela Abam was also named to the freshman team.
Hinkle was named an NSCAA All-American following the 2013 season where she started 17 games and recorded six assists. She was an integral part of the Texas Tech backline that recorded a school record 17 shutouts on the season, a feat that ranked second in the nation.
Buchanan was named to the first team following a freshman campaign that earned the Brampton, Ontario-native Big 12 Defender of the Year, Newcomer of the Year, and Championship Defensive MVP honors. She was the only Mountaineer to play all 2,151 of last season.
Smith earned a spot on the third team following a season where she played 1840 minutes in goal for the Longhorns and allowed less than a goal a game. Her 72 saves culminated in an .818 save percentage while helping Texas to a 12-6 overall record.
Abam, a Houston native, enters here collegiate career as the third-ranked player in the Texas region, and the sixth-ranked freshman defender.
