Lady Raiders Secure Share of Women’s Tennis Title
April 19, 2013

The No. 15 Texas Tech women’s tennis team has clinched a share of the Big 12 regular season crown after defeating No. 25 TCU 4-3 Friday in Fort Worth, Texas. With one match left, the Lady Raiders remain undefeated in league play (8-0) and hold an 18-4 overall record.

This is the second consecutive Big 12 regular season title for Texas Tech and its second overall. The squad is riding a nine-match winning streak, the longest program winning streak since winning 10 straight in 1987.

Against TCU, the Lady Raiders swept the doubles matches, winning their 21st doubles point in 22 matches this season.

Tech’s Samantha Adams, who is ranked No. 93 in the nation, clinched the match with a 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 win over No. 45 Stefanie Tan at No. 1 singles. The ranked win was Adams’ biggest of the season and the biggest since she upended No. 26 Aeriel Lewis of Texas last season.

The Lady Raiders are looking to become the first school to run the table undefeated since Baylor in 2010 when they take on the No. 28 Bears Sunday at 2 p.m. in Lubbock, Texas.
