Oklahoma State’s Tarah Ettinger and Simone Freeman have been named Big 12 Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week. Ettinger and Freeman helped lead the Cowgirls to an undefeated weekend at the UTSA Softball Classic in San Antonio, Texas.
Big 12 Player of the Week
Tarah Ettinger, Oklahoma State, Sr., First Base, Plainfield, Ill.
Ettinger batted .611 in five starts for the Cowgirls this weekend at the UTSA Classic in San Antonio, Texas. In 18 at-bats she recorded 11 hits, a double and a grand slam against Rutgers on Feb. 16. She racked up 8 runs batted in and a .833 slugging percentage. She also scored 6 runs. Ettinger also recorded the game ending single and RBI for OSU against UTSA on Feb. 16 to cement Simone Freeman the five inning no-hitter in the 8-0 victory. The Cowgirls went 5-0 on the weekend to improve to 7-3 on the season.
Big 12 Pitcher of the Week
Simone Freeman, Oklahoma State, Sr., RHP, Sydney, Australia
Freeman went 3-0 in three starts with one complete game. In her four appearances she recorded one complete game shutout and picked up a save. She had a 1.09 ERA in 19.1 innings. She gave up three runs on seven hits and struck out 35. At the plate, Freeman had three hits with a double, and RBI and three runs scored. She also pitched a five inning run-rule no-hitter against UTSA. It was her first career no hitter.
