Baylor, Texas Receive Softball Weekly Recognition

Texas outfielder Lindsey Stephens and Baylor pitcher Heather Stearns have been named Big 12 Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week. It is the first career weekly award for both student-athletes and the fourth claimed by a Lady Bear this season.

Stephens led the Longhorns to a 5-0 record at the Texas Invitational. The sophomore went 12-17 (.706) with 10 RBIs and seven runs scored through the five games. Five of her 12 hits were extra bases, including a pair of triples. Stephens slugged an astounding 1.118 while having an on base percentage of .722. Against Southern Miss and Louisiana Monroe, she was perfect at the plate, going 4-for-4. Saturday night against ULM, the Beaumont native was a home run shy of batting for the cycle.

Stephens drove in at least one RBI in five-straight at-bats and extended her hitting streak to 13-straight games. She now has 21 RBIs over the last 10 games.

Heather Stearns, Baylor, So., RHP, Plano, Texas
Stearns pitched Baylor past then-undefeated Mississippi State Friday night in an eight-inning shutout performance to help the Bears win 1-0. Stearns scattered six hits, walked two and struck out a dozen in the victory. Then, Sunday, to close the Gulf Coast Classic, she threw the 28th one-hitter in BU school history, allowing only a solo home run in a 2-1 win over UTSA. Stearns struck out 11 in the win and finished the weekend with a 2-0 record, a 0.47 ERA, walked five and struck out 23. Opponents hit just .137 against her for the weekend.
