Patrick Casey (Oklahoma) and Tiffani McReynolds (Baylor) have been selected as the Big 12 Track and Field Athletes of the Week for competition Jan. 25-27. It is the first weekly award for both student-athletes.
Big 12 Indoor Track & Field Male Athlete of the Week
Patrick Casey, Oklahoma, Sr., Laurel, Mont.
Casey ran the nation's best mile when he crossed the finish line in 3:56.28 to win the event at the 2013 Razorback Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark. The time is nearly two whole seconds faster than the second-best time to date of the 2013 indoor track and field season. Additionally, it is a personal-best time for Casey who shaved three seconds off of his previous low of 3:59.67 set in 2011, and a new Oklahoma Track and Field Record in the mile. The senior is the first Sooner in program history to run the mile in under 3:58.00, after breaking George Alex's then-program leading time of 3:58.76, set in 2012.
Big 12 Indoor Track & Field Female Athlete of the Week
Tiffani McReynolds, Baylor, Jr., Kansas City, Kan.
McReynolds shaved significant time off her season-best in the 60 hurdles to earn the title at the Razorback Invitational. She posted a time of 8.10 to rank second in the NCAA this year. The mark is also tied for her and the program's third-best all-time. McReynolds had also qualified for finals in the 60-meter dash, but the quick turnaround from hurdles prevented her from competing. In the first two 60-meter hurdle finals of her junior indoor season, McReynolds has finished first both times as she won the event two weeks ago in College Station, Texas, in 8.22.
