Beckie, Esson and Coffer Earn Big 12 Soccer Weekly Honors

Janine Beckie (Texas Tech), Victoria Esson (Texas Tech) and Shannon Coffer (TCU) have earned Big 12 Soccer weekly accolades for games played from Sept. 13 - 16. This marks the fifth Big 12 weekly award for Esson, the third for Beckie and the first for Coffer.

Offensive Player of the Week
Janine Beckie, Texas Tech, F, So., Highlands Ranch, Colo.

Beckie scored twice Sunday in the Red Raiders’ 2-0 victory over Arizona at the 2013 ‘Cats Classic tournament in Tucson. The performance marked Beckie’s fourth career multi-goal outing. Meanwhile, she tallied her second game-winning goal of the season and seventh of her career helping Texas Tech to improve to 7-1 for the first time since 2010. Beckie now has five goals this season, ranking second in the Big 12.  Her first strike Sunday came just 2:50 into the match marking her second-quickest goal of the season. She was later named to the 2013 ‘Cats Classic All-Tournament team.

Defensive Player of the Week
Victoria Esson, Texas Tech, GK, Sr., Christchurch, New Zealand

Esson posted back-to-back shutouts last weekend while making six saves in front of the net for the Red Raiders at the 2013 ‘Cats Classic in Tucson, Ariz. She now has posted five shutouts this season which ties for the lead in the Big 12. She has 19 total shutouts for her career. On Friday, Esson made four saves in the Red Raiders’ 1-0 overtime victory over Arizona State. She then anchored Texas Tech to its sixth team shutout of the season on Sunday making two saves as the Red Raiders improved to 7-1. Esson has allowed just one goal in the last four matches. Esson was later named to the 2013 ‘Cats Classic All-Tournament team.

Newcomer of the Week
Shannon Coffer, TCU, GK, Fr., Spring, Texas

Coffer went into TCU’s game on Thursday at SMU as relief after the starting goalkeeper suffered an injury. She played the final 36 minutes, allowing a goal on two shots. She earned the start on Sunday against a 7-0-0 Arkansas squad that was ranked No. 25. In the Horned Frogs match-up with the Razorbacks, she faced seven shots on goal and stopped six. Arkansas took 15 shots toward the net and earned six corner kicks. TCU knocked off Arkansas 2-1 in 2OT. For the two games last week, she tallied a 78 percent save percentage, stopping seven of nine shots on goal while playing 136 minutes on goal.
