Frances Silva (West Virginia), Maddie Jobe (Iowa State) and Ashley Lawrence (West Virginia) have earned Big 12 soccer weekly accolades for games played from Oct. 4 - 7. This marks the third weekly honor for Silva, the fifth for Jobe and the first for Lawrence.

Offensive Player of the Week
Frances Silva, West Virginia, F, Sr., Overland Park, Kan.
WVU senior forward Frances Silva scored both goals in the Mountaineers’ 2-1 victory over Texas on Oct. 4. Silva tallied her first goal in the 15th minute, as she finished a cross from freshman midfielder Ashley Lawrence. Up 1-0 at the start of the second half, the Mountaineers wasted little time padding their lead, with Silva netting her second goal of the evening 32 seconds into the period. A Longhorn turnover near midfield allowed WVU to retain possession, and sophomore defender Cari Price sent the ball deep into the corner. Junior forward Kate Schwindel chased it down and sent a centering pass to Silva, who beat UT’s Abby Smith from about six-yards out.   With the two scores, Silva has now earned at least one point in all but one match this season.

Defensive Player of the Week
Maddie Jobe, Iowa State, GK, Sr., Eden Prairie, Minn.
Maddie Jobe made her mark in the Cyclone record book even deeper against the Kansas Jayhawks last Friday, recording her 19th career shutout (an Iowa State record). Without Jobe’s heroics, the Cyclones would have fallen to the Jayhawks, as the senior made two huge saves in the first half to stop a Jayhawk attack. With 10 minutes remaining in the first half, a Kansas forward fired a shot dead center and just below the crossbar, Jobe leaped up to deflect the shot over the cross bar and hold the score at 0-0. Less than a minute later she laid out after a ball in the left corner of the goal. Jobe finished the contest with seven total saves. Against Drake, Jobe recorded two saves in cold and rainy conditions, giving up just one goal as the Cyclones tied Drake.

Newcomer of the Week
Ashley Lawrence, West Virginia, M, Fr., Toronto, Ontario
The WVU freshman midfielder was the spark of energy the Mountaineers needed to earn a 2-1 victory over Texas on Oct. 4. The rookie played all 90 minutes in the game and was tough to slow down, as she routinely carried the ball from one end of the field to the other. Lawrence tallied a game-best four shots and assisted on senior forward Frances Silva’s first goal of the night. She set the scoring play up after breaking away from a pack of Longhorn defenders and carrying the ball across midfield before sending a cross to a streaking Silva, who beat UT goalie Abby Smith far post from 10-yards out.
