
Oklahoma State has a 9-stroke lead upon conclusion of day one of the 2009 Big 12 Women’s Golf Championship after posting a first round score of 295 at The Rawls Course in Lubbock, Texas. Freshman Caroline Hedwall of OSU leads the individual scoring with a 3-under par 70.
Oklahoma State fired a 3-over par to take the early lead as it attempts to defend its title from a year ago. Texas A&M, the team winner in 2007, was second with a 304 (+12), followed by Kansas State at 311 (+19). The Wildcats have never finished higher than sixth at the Big 12 Championship. Kansas (312) was next after the first round, followed by Nebraska, Oklahoma, Colorado, Missouri, Texas, Baylor, Iowa State and Texas Tech.
On the individual leaderboard, OSU student-athletes hold three of the top five spots with Amanda Johnson and Pernilla Lindberg tied for fourth with an even-par 73. K-State junior Morgan Moon and Texas A&M junior Ashley Freeman are tied for second, carding a 1-under par 72.
The second round of the 2009 Big 12 Women’s Golf Championship tees off at 8 a.m. CT on Saturday, April 26. Admission is free to the public. Links to live scoring of the championship can be found on the Big 12 Web site at Big12Sports.com.
