League teams opened play with a 19-8 non-conference record in 27 opening weekend matches. Texas and Texas Tech posted 3-0 records with the Longhorns winning the Lobo Classic in Albuquerque, N.M., and the Red Raiders claiming the Titan Classic in Fullerton, Calif.

TTU swept two opponents this weekend after only sweeping four all of last year. Tech leads the league in kills, blocks and service aces.

Texas checks in at No. 3 in the AVCA rankings this week, while Oklahoma enters the top 25, tied for 24th. Kansas and Iowa State are receiving votes.

Kansas won its 700th match in program history on Friday with a sweep of Utah Valley to open the 2014 campaign. Head coach Ray Bechard is eight wins shy of 1,000 for his career. KU also defeated No. 23 Creighton over the weekend.

Tech’s Lauren Douglass claimed the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week honor. It is the first Offensive weekly award for TTU since the distinction was established in 2007.

ISU’s Caitlin Nolan claimed the Defensive Player of the Week - the 36th for the Cyclones since 2007 - the second highest by a team since ‘07 is 12.

The Big 12’s nine volleyball squads compete in a double-round robin schedule, playing each conference opponent twice during the regular season to determine One True Champion. The Big 12 is the only “Power Five” conference in which each squad faces its conference opponents twice during the year.
