Team-By-Team Notes From Week Four In Big 12 Football

Through four weeks, Big 12 teams are balanced in terms of touchdowns. Teams have scored 104 rushing touchdowns and 103 passing touchdowns. The rushing TDs have averaged 10.3 yards in length while the passing TDs have averaged 28.6 yards.

There were 18 touchdowns from scrimmage in Saturday's games – nine rushing and nine passing. The average length for the rushing TDs was 16 yards while the passing touchdowns averaged 40.2 yards in distance.

Through four weeks, there have been 10 defensive/special team touchdowns - interception returns of 25, 32, 38, 41 and 63 yards. Two fumble returns of 9 and 91 yards.

Kickoff returns of 94 and 100 yards. Punt return of 67 yards.

Baylor (3-0; defeated Louisiana Monroe 70-7; vs. West Virginia Oct. 5)
Quarterback Bryce Petty completed 18-of-27 passes for a career-high 351 yards and a career-high four touchdowns.

Tevin Reese had a 47-yard touchdown catch in the 1st quarter - 17 of his 19 career TD receptions have gone for 40-plus yards. He averages 51.6 yards per career TD reception.

In three seasons under defensive coordinator Phil Bennett, Baylor has scored 11 defensive TDs after combining for four defensive TDs in the three seasons prior to his arrival.

Baylor's defense has allowed three touchdowns and scored four touchdowns.

Baylor is averaging 47.6 points in the first half. That would rank eighth in scoring in the FBS.

Baylor became the first FBS or FCS team to score 28-plus points in the firstt quarter of three consecutive games during the BCS era (1996-present).

Baylor is the first FBS team to score 60-plus points in its first three games of its season since LSU in 1930.

Baylor's 25 touchdown drives are averaging 4.6 plays, 62.4 yards and 1:05 in length. Only one of the 25 TD drives have taken more than two minutes and 11 have lasted less than 60 seconds.

On its 25 scoring drives, Baylor is averaging a point for every 9.3 seconds.

Iowa State (0-2, idle; at Tulsa Thursday)
This will be the third meeting in 386 days between the schools. They faced each other in the season opener and then the Liberty Bowl last season.

Kansas (2-1; defeated Louisiana Tech, 13-10; vs. Texas Tech Oct. 5)
Quarterback Jake Heaps completed a career-high 28 passes and was more than the total number of passes he completed in KU's first two games.

Junior linebacker Ben Heeney recorded his first career interception. He finished with 10 tackles.

Redshirt freshman kicker Matthew Wyman's 52-yard field goal to win the game was the longest for Kansas since Jacob Branstetter hit a 57-yard try against Oklahoma in 2009.

Junior punter/kickoff specialist Trevor Pardula averaged 57.6 yards per attempt, a school single-game record.

It was the first time since 2005 that the KU won a game on the final play of the game. The last time was against Iowa State after a Scott Webb, 34-yard field goal gave the Jayhawks a 24-21 win in overtime.

Kansas State (2-2, 0-1; lost to Texas 31-21; at Oklahoma State Oct. 5)
Tyler Lockett had a career-high 13 receptions and set the school-single game record with 237 yards in receptions.

Kansas State lost its Big 12 opener for the first time since 2008.

During its five-game winning streak over Texas, Kansas State had a plus-13 advantage in turnovers. The Wildcats were minus-three against the Longhorns.

Kansas State allowed season highs in rushing (227) and total (452) yards.

Oklahoma  (3-0, 1-0; idle; at Notre Dame Saturday)
The Sooners will travel to South Bend and hope to avenge last season's 30-13 loss to the Irish in Norman.

Oklahoma State (3-0, idle; at West Virginia Saturday)
The Cowboys, the preseason choice to win the Conference title, open Big 12 play at Morgantown.

TCU (1-2, 0-1; idle; vs. SMU Saturday)
The former Southwest Conference rivals will battle for the Iron Skillet trophy.

Texas (2-2, 1-0; defeated Kansas State, 31-21; at Iowa State Oct. 3)
Johnathan Gray a career-high 141 rushing yards on 28 carries. He became the first UT player to gain 100 yards rushing against K-State.

Alex De La Torre had his first-career rush and it went for 19 yards on a fake punt which set up the Longhorns' third touchdown.

Wide receiver Marcus Johnson made his first-career start and posted career highs in receptions (five), receiving yards (70) and long reception (21).

Jaxon Shipley had a career-best 24-yard punt return in the second quarter.

Texas is 14-2 in Big 12 Conference opening games under Mack Brown. The only losses came to Kansas State - on the road in 1998, and at home in 2007.

Texas has scored six touchdowns this season on plays of 50 yards or longer and they have been spread around among six players.

Texas Tech (4-0, 1-0; defeated Texas State 33-7; at Kansas Oct. 5)
Junior placekicker Ryan Bustin tied the school record for the most field goals in a game with four. He has missed just one of nine attempts this season.

Texas Tech has started 4-0 for the third consecutive season.

Texas Tech has an interception in three consecutive games for the first time since the first three games in 2010.

The attendance of 60,997 was a Jones AT&T Stadium. The previous record was 60,879 set against Texas last season.

West Virginia (2-2, 0-1; lost to Maryland 37-0 vs. Oklahoma State Saturday)
Nick O'Toole's eight punts were a season high. He had four punts of 50-plus yards. Entering the game, he had five punts of 50 or more yards.

West Virginia finished with 177 total yards; the last time the Mountaineers failed to gain at least 200 yards was against LSU in 2010.

West Virginia was shut out for the first time since a 35-0 loss to Virginia Tech in 2001.

Maryland ended a seven-game losing streak against West Virginia. It was the Terrapins' most lopsided win in the series since a 54-7 blowout in 1951.
