Clint Chelf (Oklahoma State), Daytawion Lowe (Oklahoma State) and Tyler Lockett (K-State) were named Big 12 Football Players of the Week by a panel of media that cover the Conference. Lockett (special teams) was honored for the fifth time in his career while Chelf (offense) picked up his second award of the season. Lowe (defense) was recognized for the first time.
Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week
Clint Chelf, Oklahoma State, QB, Sr, Enid, Okla.
Clint Chelf completed 19-of-25 passes for a career-high 370 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions in leading the No. 10 Cowboys to a 49-17 win over No. 4 Baylor. His QBR of 97.8 was the second-highest of any quarterback in the nation last week as he completed his first 12 passes of the game. Chelf was also honored as the national player of the week by the Walter Camp Football Foundation and by Athlon Sports. Entering the contest, Baylor allowed an average of just 17.4 points and 190.1 passing yards per game.
Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week
Daytawion Lowe, Oklahoma State, S, Sr, Midwest City, Okla.
Daytawion Lowe led the Cowboys with 10 tackles and a pass breakup in their win over Baylor. With Justin Gilbert limited at cornerback due to injury, Lowe was often called upon to play man-to-man defense with no help against the best offense in the nation. The Bears entered the game averaging 61.2 points and 684.8 yards per game to lead the country in both categories, but thanks largely to Lowe’s ability to cover, OSU limited Baylor to 17 points and 453 yards.
Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week
Tyler Lockett, K-State, KR/WR, Jr, Tulsa, Okla.
Tyler Lockett recorded a school-record 440 all-purpose yards against Oklahoma with 162 on kickoff returns and 278 receiving while becoming the Wildcats’ all-time leader in kickoff return yardage. His all-purpose yards ranks second in Big 12 history and fifth all-time in the FBS. In addition to averaging 32.4 yards per kick return, Lockett’s 278 receiving yards is a program record and the fourth-most in Big 12 history. The junior also tied the school mark for receiving touchdowns with three.
