Jones, Muckelroy and Henery Selected Big 12 Football Players of the Week

Landry Jones (Oklahoma), Roddrick Muckelroy (Texas) and Alex Henery (Nebraska) have been named Big 12 Conference Football Players of the Week as selected by a media panel. Jones (offensive) and Muckelroy (defense) were recognized for the first time while Henery (special teams) earned his second career honor and first of the season.

BIG 12 OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Landry Jones, Oklahoma, QB, Fr, Artesia, N.M.
Making just the second start of his career, Landry Jones threw a school record six touchdown passes in Oklahoma’s 45-0 win over Tulsa. The redshirt freshman broke the mark previously held by Heisman Trophy winners Sam Bradford and Jason White along with Heisman runner-up Josh Heupel. Jones also tied the NCAA record for the second-most touchdown passes by a freshman. Jones ended the game 25-of-37 for 336 yards with two interceptions. His touchdown throws covered  7, 63, 13, 10, 14 and 35 yards.

BIG 12 DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Roddrick Muckelroy, Texas, LB, Sr, Hallsville, Texas
Roddrick Muckelroy registered a team-high 10 tackles, including two tackles for loss (-15 yards) and a sack (-14 yards), in Texas’ 34-24 win over Texas Tech. He also broke up a pass and had two quarterback pressures. With Muckelroy leading the way, the Longhorn defense held Tech to three third-down conversions on 13 attempts. UT’s defense also limited TTU to minus-6 yards rushing. 

BIG 12 SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Alex Henery, Nebraska, PK/P, Jr, Omaha, Neb.
Alex Henery made all five of his field goal attempts, the second-most in school history, in Nebraska’s one-point loss at Virginia Tech. His field goals were from 40, 27, 19, 38 and 38 yards. Henery recorded his fourth career game with at least four field goals while extending his streak of made field goals inside 50 yards to 19-consecutive. He has connected on 6-of-7 field goals this season and hit 32-of-36 in his career. The junior specialist also punted six times for a 41.5-yard average. He booted a 76-yarder in the first quarter which marked the fourth-longest punt in program annals.
