The Big 12 Conference has named 215 student-athletes to the 2013 Academic All-Big 12 Track & Field Teams, the league office announced.
A total of 137 individuals were recognized on the women’s team (107 first team, 30 second team), while the men’s team featured 78 student-athletes (59 first team, 19 second team).
On the men’s side, Greg Bostick and Blake Niccum (Baylor) were nominated with 4.00 grade point averages. For the women, 11 individuals represented with a perfect GPA: Annelle Meals and Erika Schiller (Kansas State), Jacy Bennett (Oklahoma), Brooke Gritters, Clara Telford, Caitlin Way and Kendra Woodson (Oklahoma State), Tiffany Tarver and Caitlin Waters (Texas Tech), and Aubrey Moskal and Kelly Williams (West Virginia).
Oklahoma State paced all men’s teams with 17 total selections, while Baylor had the most honorees on the women’s side with 27.
Combined, 166 student-athletes earned first team distinction, while 49 comprised the second team.
First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher (either cumulative or the two previous semesters) and must have participated in 60 percent of their team’s scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
