Current Football Notes in PDF

Through 13 Conference games this season a ranked Big 12 team has fallen to an unranked conference opponent on three occasions – the most among peer conferences. Since 2011 with the implementation of round-robin scheduling, the Big 12 has had 15 such games, also the most among peer conferences (ACC - 13, Big Ten - 11, Pac-12 - 11, SEC - 2).

The Big 12’s two undefeated teams, Baylor and Texas Tech, are among just eight teams ranked in the top 25 nationally in total offense and defense, as well as scoring offense and defense.

Big 12 teams have compiled 39 scoring plays that have covered 50-plus yards.

The four Big 12 games played last Saturday featured 13 rushing touchdowns averaging 6.3 yards in length and 12 passing touchdowns averaging 31.2 yards.

Through seven weeks, Big 12 teams have 147 rushing touchdowns averaging 10.3 yards in length and 140 passing touchdowns that average 30.2 yards.

This season there have been 22 defensive/special team touchdowns - interception returns of 25, 32, 38, 41, 63, 58, 24, 66, 32, 31, 32 and 54 yards. Two fumble returns of 9 and 91 yards. Kickoff returns of 94, 100, 45 and 95 yards. Punt returns of 67 and 85 yards. A muffed punt recovery in the end zone (0 yards) and a blocked field goal return of 65 yards.

Eight Big 12 teams are averaging 95 percent capacity or higher for home game attendance.

Texas was named the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl National Team of the Week. It marks the 25th time for a Big 12 team to earn the award since the program began in 2002.

Big 12 Players of the Week were awarded to offense: Davis Webb (Texas Tech), defense: Chris Whaley (Texas) and special teams: Jarvis West (Iowa State).
