Texas Tech jumped out to an early first half lead and never looked back as the Red Raiders cruised to a 3-0 shutout victory over Minnesota. The Red Raiders posted their 17th shutout on the year. Texas Tech now advances to play former Big 12 rival Texas A&M Friday in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

West Virginia advances to the round of 32 for the first time since 2010. After the match ended in a 0-0 draw following 90 minutes of regulation and two 10-minute sudden death overtimes, the Mountaineers made their first three penalty kicks, while denying all three of Rutgers attempts.

Oklahoma State saw its season come to an end Friday night as the Cowgirls dropped a 2-1 decision to Arkansas. The loss snapped a string of six-straight NCAA tourney berths in which the Cowgirls had advanced to at least the second round. Oklahoma State finishes the season with a 9-7-6 mark.

The second and third rounds of the 2013 NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship will take place on Nov. 22 and 24 at on-campus sites followed by on-campus quarterfinals on Nov. 29 and 30 and the Women’s College Cup on Dec. 6 and 8 in Cary, N.C. at WakeMed Soccer Park.

The Big 12 has now advanced at least two teams to the second round of the NCAA Championship in 16 of the league’s 18 seasons.

The Big 12 has placed at least two teams in the NCAA Tournament every year since the league’s inception in 1996. This marks the 14th time three or more Big 12 squads have received invites.

Texas Tech leads the nation in shutout percentage (0.773), is second in goals-against average (0.305) and sixth in won-lost-tied percentage (0.864).

West Virginia is 19th in the nation in won-lost-tied percentage (0.795), 27th in points-per-game (6.41) and 33rd in scoring offense (2.14 goals-per-game).

The Big 12 has had at least two teams ranked in the top 25 in all of the season’s 13 weeks. A total of six league teams have been ranked or received votes at some point this season.
