Big 12 Women's Basketball Begins Conference Play

The Big 12 begins conference play on Thursday with all 10 teams in action after wrapping up the majority of non-league play with an 89-27 record (.767). The lone non-conference game remaining is top-ranked Connecticut at Baylor on Jan. 13.

Every Big 12 team has completed the non-conference portion of its schedule with a winning record for the seventh consecutive season.

The Big 12 has won 22 of its last 26 games with four teams finishing non-conference play with 10-or-more victories.

Iowa State (11-0) and Oklahoma State (11-0) completed their non-league seasons undefeated marking the third time since 2005-06 for the league to have two teams unbeaten heading into the conference schedule.

Nine teams have recorded perfect non-conference seasons since 2005-06.
  2013-14: Iowa State (11-0) and Oklahoma State (11-0)
  2012-13: Oklahoma State (11-0)
  2011-12: Baylor (13-0) and Texas Tech (12-0)
  2009-10: Nebraska (13-0)
  2008-09: K-State (13-0)
  2005-06: Baylor (10-0) and Kansas (11-0)

The Big 12 is the only league with two undefeated teams. Iowa State and Oklahoma State are among just seven unbeaten teams nationally.

Sixty percent of Big 12 teams are either ranked or receiving votes in the Associated Press and USA Today Coaches polls - Baylor, Iowa State, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State are ranked in both. Rankings are listed on page 2. The new coaches poll will be released on Tuesday.

Liz Donohoe (Oklahoma State) claimed her first Big 12 Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honor while Jadda Buckley (Iowa State) picked up her second freshman award.
