Kate Schwindel (West Virginia), Brooke Gilbert (Texas) and Koree Willer (Iowa State) have earned Big 12 soccer weekly accolades for games played from Oct. 11 - 14. This marks the fourth Big 12 weekly award for Schwindel, while Gilbert and Willer notch the first honors of their careers.

Offensive Player of the Week
Kate Schwindel, West Virginia, F, Jr., Livingston, N.J.
Schwindel scored and earned an assist in WVU’s 2-0 win over Iowa State on Oct. 11 in Morgantown. She helped WVU get an early lead in the 13th minute, as she sent a ball across the field to Frances Silva on a free kick. She then tallied her own goal in the 56th minute. In last Sunday’s contest against TCU, she tallied the Mountaineers’ game-winning goal. The Livingston, N.J., native found the back of the net on her seventh shot on-goal in the 98th minute, pushing the Mountaineers to a 3-2 overtime victory. Prior to her goal, she assisted on the team’s second score of the day in the 55th minute. Schwindel tallied a game-best 11 shots, the fourth-best single-game effort in program history.

Defensive Player of the Week
Brooke Gilbert, Texas, CB, Jr., Snohomish, Wash.
Gilbert anchored a Texas back line that held a powerful Baylor offense scoreless for 86 minutes, playing her 14th complete game for the Longhorns in 2013.  Gilbert, who has also been a force on set plays with four goals scored this season, got off a shot that narrowly missed the goal just before Sharis Lachappelle’s first goal against Baylor in the 48th minute.  Lachappelle sent a corner kick toward the far post that Gilbert got her head on but sailed it just wide.

Newcomer of the Week
Koree Willer, Iowa State, F, Fr., Fort Collins, Colo.
The freshman continued her stellar season with a goal and a pair of assists against Oklahoma.  In the 24th minute, with the score tied 0-0, she started the Cyclones off strong sending a long ball that ricocheted off the bar and went in to score, giving Iowa State the 1-0 lead and momentum. The freshman wasn’t done yet, as she set up teammate Emily Goldstein in the 51st and 71st minutes en route to the Cyclones 4-1 victory, finishing the game with one goal and two assists. Willer had a foot in three of ISU’s four goals and is third on the team in goals this season with four.
