Four Big 12 Gymnasts Advance to Individual Event Finals

Four Big 12 gymnasts have advanced to the Individual Event Finals in the NCAA Gymnastics Championships which will be held Sunday, April 22, at the Gwinnett Center in Duluth, Ga. Oklahoma's Megan Ferguson, Brie Olson and Sara Stone along with Missouri's Rachel Updike earned All-America honors and a chance to compete for a national individual event title.

Senior Megan Ferguson garnered First Team honors on both beam and floor, claiming the top spot on beam with a 9.95 and sharing part of the crown on floor with a 9.900. The Big 12 Event Specialist of the Year is ranked No. 1 in the country on beam and has posted a 9.900 or better in nine of her 15 routines on the apparatus this season.

Senior Sara Stone tallied a first team distinction on beam with a 9.900 while junior Brie Olson was a first team All-American on bars after recording a 9.900.

The three Soooners join Missouri's Updike in Sunday's Individual Event Finals. With a 9.875 on floor, Updike became the second freshman in MU program history to earn All-America honors at the NCAA Championships. The Olathe, Kan.-native tied for fourth in the event while also tying for 13th on vault. She took a share of 16th place on beam and finished 40th on bars.

The third-seeded Oklahoma women's gymnastics team finished fourth in the first semifinal of the 2012 NCAA Championship.

The Sooners missed their third-straight NCAA Super Six appearance by just .200 points, as OU finished behind No. 2 UCLA (197.400), No. 7 Utah (197.200) and No. 10 Stanford (197.125).

Individual Event Finals begins at 12 p.m. CT Sunday. The competition will be aired live on espn3.com.
