Oklahoma Sweeps Weekly Gymnastics Honors
February 18, 2014

Oklahoma’s Haley Scaman, Madison Mooring and Chayse Capps have earned the Big 12 weekly gymnastics awards for competition through Feb. 16. Scaman picks up the Gymnast of the Week honor for the second-straight week, Mooring received her first weekly award this season as the Event Specialist of the Week and Capps claims her fourth weekly honor as the Newcomer of the Week.

Haley Scaman, Oklahoma, So., Riverside, Ill.
Scaman had an incredible night at the Metroplex Challenge for Oklahoma, culminating in a perfect 10.0 on floor exercise in the final routine of the night. Scaman tied her career-high on vault with a 9.95, her sixth 9.9+ vault this season. She followed up with a 9.9 on bars as she aided OU to a 49.575 on the event, tying the Oklahoma program-record score on the event. Scaman took to floor in the Sooners’ anchor position, needing a strong performance to secure the squad’s victory over No. 3 LSU. Scaman’s performance was flawless, earning her a career-high 10.0 and a tie for the floor title. The score marked Oklahoma’s first perfect 10 since 2010 and only the second perfect 10.0 on floor in program history. Scaman’s 10.0 is the fifth perfect score on floor exercise this season. Her performance propelled OU to a 49.625 on floor and a 198.175 overall—the nation’s highest team score this season.

Madison Mooring, Oklahoma, Sr., Sallisaw, Okla.
Mooring’s ultimate contribution to OU’s nation-best score of 198.175 this weekend could be summed up with the word “momentum.” Mooring was steady in all the right places, posting two 9.9+ routines on vault and beam for the Sooners and tying her season-highs on both events. Her 9.9 leadoff routine on vault set the tone for Oklahoma’s entire meet as she aided OU to a 49.475 on the event, its sixth performance of 49.400 or higher this year. She followed that performance by tying her season-high of 9.925 on beam in the No. 2 position, giving Oklahoma a crucial boost on a key mental event. Her score helped give OU a meet-high 49.500 on beam, the event that would prove to be a huge component in the Sooners’ victory.

Chayse Capps, Oklahoma, Fr., Plano, Texas
Capps ability to deliver in big situations shone again for the Sooners last weekend. Capps performed like a veteran on all three events, including an exceptional career-best 9.975 on beam to take the event title and lead Oklahoma. She also contributed a 9.85 on vault and a big 9.875 on floor, boosting the Sooners to a season-best 49.625 on the event. Capps is the first Sooner this season to earn a 10.0 from any judge on balance beam.
