Brewer, Ferguson and Updike Garner Weekly Gymnastics Awards
RELATED LINKS
The Oklahoma duo of Erica Brewer and Megan Ferguson, along with Missouri's Rachel Updike have earned Big 12 weekly gymnastics awards for competition Feb. 17-19. Brewer picks up her first weekly honor and is the third OU gymnast to garner Gymnast of the Week accolades as a freshman. Ferguson collects her third-straight Event Specialist title and fourth in her career, while Updike claims her sixth Newcomer of the Week distinction. Updike's six awards this season ties former MU gymnast Sarah Shire for second-most in one year, trailing OU's Kiera Redmond-Sturms who earned seven in 2008.

The Sooners extend their streak of garnering Event Specialist titles to seven-straight weeks.

BIG 12 GYMNAST OF THE WEEK
Erica Brewer, Oklahoma, Fr., Louisville, Ky.
In her first career all-around appearance, Brewer tabbed a 39.300 total to beat the league's then-ranked No. 1 all-arounder, Mary Burke. The freshman posted a 9.95 in her first career beam routine after stepping in for Rebecca Clark who suffered a season-ending injury in practice earlier in the week. Her beam score earned her a share of the event title and also boosted her to be ranked first nationally on the apparatus. Brewer is the only freshman in the Big 12 to compete in the all-around.

BIG 12 EVENT SPECIALIST OF THE WEEK
Megan Ferguson, Oklahoma, Sr., Olathe, Kan.
Claiming top honors in the beam and floor Friday night, Ferguson helped No. 3 Oklahoma improve to 2-0 in Big 12 competition as the Sooners defeated then-ranked No. 16 Missouri. Her score of 9.925 on floor was her third-straight score of 9.925 or higher. She also earned a 9.925 on beam, marking her fourth consecutive score of 9.9 or higher in the event. The Olathe, Kan.-native is currently ranked fourth nationally on beam, seventh on floor and 16th on bars.

BIG 12 NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK
Rachel Updike, Missouri, Fr., Olathe, Kan.
Updike recorded a 9.900 on vault Friday, contributing to the Tigers' vault score of 49.350, which ties for the second-highest team vault score in Mizzou history. The freshman earned her second 9.900 of the night on floor, tying teammate Mary Burke for second place. Tabbing a 9.850 on beam, the Olathe, Kan.-native matched her career high. Updike ranks in the top 30 nationally in every event she competes in (vault, beam and floor).
