Max McGreevy (Oklahoma) and Julie Yang (Oklahoma State) have been named September’s Big 12 Golfers of the Month. It is McGreevy’s and Yang’s first monthly honor. McGreevy is the first Sooner to take home the honor since November 2010.
Max McGreevy, Oklahoma, Fr., Edmond, Okla.
McGreevy led Oklahoma to a first place finish at the Golfweek Conference Challenge and a runner-up finish at the Jack Nicklaus Invitational. As a freshman, McGreevy has been the highest finisher for the Sooners in both of their tournaments this fall. At the Golfweek Conference Challenge, he pocketed 14 birdies to finish tied for fifth individually. He then carded seven birdies and an eagle in three rounds at the Jack Nicklaus Invitational to net an eighth place individual finish. In the second round of the Jack Nicklaus Invitational, McGreevy fired a career-low 68 (-3).
Julie Yang, Oklahoma State, So., Seoul, South Korea
Yang led the Cowgirls to a third place finish at the Dale McNamara Fall Preview and a second place finish at the Windy City Collegiate Championship. Yang posted a 67-72-67 at the Dale McNamara; the 67s marked a new career-low round for her. After shooting a 69-69-72 at the Windy City Collegiate Championship, Yang ended the month with a 69.33 stroke average. Yang tied for second in both tournaments individually. Dating back to last season, she has now finished in the top 10 in five of her last six starts.
