Pelger, Hahn & Soucie Awarded with Big 12 Weekly Honors

Kristen Hahn (Iowa State), Kaitlynn Pelger (Kansas State) and Tayler Soucie (Kansas) have been named Big 12 volleyball weekly award recipients for matches played Oct. 30-Nov. 3.

Pelger earns her second Offensive Player of the Week honor on the season, third total weekly recognition for 2013, and eighth career award.

Hahn, who set the league record with 16 career Defensive Player of the Week honors last week, now has 17 over her career, including five this season.

Soucie also earned Rookie of the Week on Sept. 23 and Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 7.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Kaitlynn Pelger, Kansas State, Sr., MB, Olathe, Kan./Olathe South
Pelger led the Big 12 in kills and points on the week, recording 5.67 and 7.00, respectively, as the Wildcats defeated Oklahoma for the first time since Nov. 9, 2011, on Sunday evening in Manhattan. Pelger totaled 17 kills on 27 attempts with just four errors for a .481 hitting percentage. The senior also recorded two service aces, five digs and four blocks in K-State’s sweep of No. 25 OU.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Kristen Hahn, Iowa State, Sr., L, Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Kennedy
Hahn, a two-time All-American and the two-time defending Big 12 Libero of the Year, led the Cyclones to a pair of victories last week. In Wednesday’s five-set win over Texas Tech, Hahn led the ISU back-row with 28 digs, eight of which came in the final set. She was also a force serving in the win over the Red Raiders, recording three service aces. In Iowa State’s sweep of Baylor on Saturday, the senior posted 26 digs, the most by a Big 12 player in a three-set match this season, as the Cyclones recorded 71 total team digs. Hahn also chipped in five assists and a service ace. She wrapped up the week with 54 digs at 6.75 digs per set.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Tayler Soucie, Kansas, Fr., MB, Osawatomie, Kan./Osawatomie
In KU’s wins over Baylor and at TCU last week, Soucie chalked up a .568 hitting percentage thanks to an accurate 22 kills compared to just one error. The hitting percentage was the best in the Big 12 on the week. She added seven total blocks as well, good for a 1.00 blocks per set average.

Against Baylor on Wednesday, Soucie totaled 10 kills and four blocks. On Saturday at TCU, the rookie middle blocker cranked out 12 kills and no errors in the four-set victory. Since the start of Big 12 play, Soucie has ranked in the league’s top 10 in hitting efficiency and blocks per set.
