Baylor Men Eliminated In NCAA Championship Round of 16

The 25th-ranked Baylor men's tennis team dropped a 4-0 decision to No. 8 Duke in the round of 16 in the NCAA Championships on Friday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga.

The loss ended the season for the Bears who finished the year with a 19-12 mark.

After winning doubles at courts two and three, the Blue Devils won five of six first sets en route to claiming the three points needed to win. Baylor took just one set on the day, freshman Diego Galeano won his first set on court five, 6-3.

With BU's loss it marks the first time since 2002 that the Big 12 will not have a representative advance to the quarterfinal round on the men's side. The Bears had made the quarterfinals in each of those years.

Select Big 12 tennis student-athletes will now compete in the individual portion of the 2012 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Tennis Championships. Play will run May 23-28 at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex On the men's side, the Conference has four singles selections and a pair of doubles tandems. For the women, the league earned seven singles spots along with four doubles selections.
