Oklahoma Chosen to Win Big 12 Menís Tennis Title

Oklahoma, last year’s regular season and tournament champion, will open the 2013 Conference season as the league favorite in the Big 12 coaches’ poll. The Sooners were selected as the unanimous No. 1 with five first-place votes and 25 points. Baylor tallied one first-place nod and took the second spot with 20 points. Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own team in the poll.

OU holds a 13-5 record so far this season, including a strong 6-1 mark at home. The No. 11 Sooners have six wins against top 25 opponents this year.

Baylor has five singles competitors ranked in the latest ITA rankings with Patrick Pradella coming in at No. 33. Going into conference play, the Bears have won four consecutive matches and are 11-2 in Waco this season.

Texas was picked to finish third with 18 points while TCU was chosen fourth with 13 points. Texas Tech and Oklahoma State round out the poll in the fifth and sixth spots, respectively.

Big 12 men’s tennis conference action begins this Friday, April 5.
