Webb, Burgic Named Big 12 Tennis Players of the Week

With both Big 12 conference tennis seasons underway, a men’s and women’s Big 12 Tennis Player of the Week was selected by league officials for matches from April 2 - 8. Oklahoma’s Dane Webb was honored on the men’s side, while Baylor’s Ema Burgic garnered her second women’s award this season.

This is the first honor for Webb and second career recognition for Burgic.

Big 12 Men’s Tennis Player of the Week

In doubles, Webb and partner Costin Paval upset the No. 23 team from Texas 8-6, and easily beat the No. 79 duo from TCU, 8-4. In singles, he had two come-from-behind wins. After he dropped the first set in both, the 61st-ranked sophomore came back strong to beat both opponents. Against Texas, he claimed the win with a victory over No. 85 Daniel Whitehead, giving the Sooners their fourth point. Against TCU, he helped secure OU’s sweep by downing Orlando Superlano at the No. 3 spot.

Big 12 Women’s Tennis Player of the Week
Ema Burgic, Baylor, So., Lukavac, Bosnia & Herzegovina / Gimnazija Lukavac
Burgic has won 10 matches in a row to boost her overall record to 18-5 in the top of the lineup for the Lady Bears. Alongside freshman Victoria Kisialeva, they are 13-2 in doubles on court 1. The duo recently upset seventh-ranked Cristina Stancu/Stefania Hristov of Texas A&M 8-4 to clinch the doubles point for the match. Burgic defeated 11th-ranked Petra Niedermayerova in straight-sets, 6-3, 6-1, against Kansas State.
