May 22, 2014

Four Big 12 tennis singles players and three doubles teams advanced to Friday’s NCAA Championship action after picking up wins.

Oklahoma’s Dane Webb advanced to the round of 16 in the NCAA Men’s Tennis Singles Championship. Webb continued his dominant playing streak by upsetting No. 11 Peter Kobelt of Ohio State. The junior won in straight sets, 7-5, 7-5. He will face No. 47 Roberto Cid of South Florida on Friday, May 23, in the Sweet Sixteen of the singles draw.

Texas All-American No. 16 Soren Hess-Olesen defeated East Carolina's 25th-ranked Joran Vliegen 7-5, 6-3 in the second round of the singles draw. With his 30th singles win of the year, 16th-ranked Hess-Olesen returns to the NCAA singles round of 16 for the second consecutive season after a quarterfinal run in 2013. Hess-Olesen will face Texas A&M's 22nd-ranked Shane Vinsant on Friday.

Hess-Olesen and junior Lloyd Glasspool teamed up for a 6-3, 6-4 win over Florida's 22nd-ranked Elliott Orkin and Gordon Watson. The duo made their NCAA Doubles Championship debut with a gutsy straight-set win over Florida's 22nd-ranked Elliott Orkin and Gordon Watson. It marked the fifth consecutive win for the Texas tandem. The 35th-ranked BU pair pulled off a major upset over ninth-ranked Catherine Harrison and Kyle McPhillips of UCLA. Kisialeva and Shankle made it look easy, securing a 6-3, 6-3 straight set victory to advance into the round of 16. The duo will face Sofie Oyen and Belinda Woolcock of Florida in the second round of doubles play on Friday.

Oklahoma State freshman Viktoriya Lushkova earned her first career All-America honor after upsetting 14th-ranked Olivia Janowicz of Florida, 7-5, 7-5, at the NCAA Championships. The rookie will face 27th-ranked Ester Goldfeld of Duke in the tournament's round of 16 on Friday.

Texas All-America sophomore Breaunna Addison dispatched Notre Dame's Quinn Gleason in straight sets and advanced to the singles draw's round of 16. The 12th-ranked Addison's 6-1, 6-1 win over the 39th-ranked Gleason sets up a rematch between Addison and North Carolina's top-ranked and top-seeded Jamie Loeb in Friday's third round
