Hess-Olesen, Sude/Kadhe Advance to NCAA Semifinals
May 24, 2014

Soren Hess-Olesen (Texas) and the doubles team of Arjun Kadhe and Jakob Sude (Oklahoma State) will represent the Big 12 Conference in the semifinals of the 2014 NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships.

Two-time All-American Soren Hess-Olesen became the first Longhorn in 21 years to advance to the NCAA Singles Championship semifinals after defeating UCLA's Mackenzie McDonald in three sets (6-3, 0-6, 6-2) on Saturday afternoon. Hess-Olesen (32-7) is the seventh Longhorn to reach the NCAA Singles Championship semifinals and the first since David Draper in 1993. He will face UCLA's second-ranked Marcos Giron in the semifinals on Sunday at 11 a.m. CT.

Hess-Olesen and partner Lloyd Glasspool withdrew from Saturday's NCAA Doubles Championship quarterfinal due to injury. The 16th-ranked All-American duo finish the season with a 27-12 record, including 14 wins over ranked opponents.

Oklahoma State's duo of Arjun Kadhe and Jakob Sude continued their NCAA dominance, defeating Pepperdine's Alcantara/Sarkissian, 6-4, 6-3. The No. 15 Waves broke serve first to take a 4-3 lead in set one, but the Cowboys broke back to eliminate the advantage. OSU held serve to take back the momentum and put away the frame 6-4. Kadhe and Sude got a break ahead early in set two, 3-1, and the gap proved enough to hold off Sarkissian and Alcantara’s comeback efforts. Kadhe and Sude will face Ohio State's Kobelt/Metka on Sunday at 4:30 pm CT.

The Baylor women’s tennis pairing of Victoria Kisialeva and Blair Shankle were knocked out of the quarterfinals with a straight-set loss to second-ranked Lauren Herring and Maho Kowase of Georgia. The Bulldog duo recorded a 6-3, 6-1 victory to advance to the NCAA semifinals. The loss ends the Lady Bear tandem’s season with a  21-6 record and 5-5 mark against ranked foes.
