Three Big 12 student-athletes have been named to the Wooden Award Midseason Top 25. DeAndre Kane (Iowa State), Andrew Wiggins (Kansas) and Marcus Smart (Oklahoma State) all appear on the list of front-runners for college basketball's most prestigious individual honor.

The players on the list are considered strong candidates for the official voting ballot, which will consist of approximately 20 top players who have proven to their universities that they are making progress toward graduation and maintaining at least a cumulative 2.0 GPA. However, players not chosen to the midseason list are still eligible for the ballot. The Wooden Award All American Team, consisting of the nation’s top 10 players, will be announced the week of the “Elite Eight” round of the NCAA Tournament.

Wiggins, one of only five freshmen on the list, leads Kansas with a 15.2 scoring average, which also leads the Big 12 freshmen class and is 10th overall in the conference. The 6-8 Vaughan, Ontario, Canada, guard has five games of 20-plus points and pulled down a season-high 19 rebounds at then No. 8 Iowa State (1/13). Wiggins is 50-of-59 (84.7 percent) from the free throw line in his last 10 games after hitting 10-of-12 charity shots during his 17-point effort in the win versus No. 23 Baylor.

Kane has been a stat-sheet stuffer in his first season at Iowa State, averaging 16.7 points, 7.2 rebounds and 5.8 assists. In conference play, Kane is leading the Big 12 with 20.8 points per game and 3.0 steals, while also ranking second in assists (5.2). He has earned player of the week honors four times from the Big 12, earning player of the week and newcomer of the week honors twice. He was also named USBWA Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week after earning MVP honors at the Diamond Head Classic.

After breaking numerous records in his freshman campaign, Smart continues to lead the Cowboys in his sophomore season. Through 18 games, he is averaging 17.8 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. In conference play, Smart tops the league in rebounding, averaging 9.6 boards, and in assists with an average of 5.40. He has been recognized as the Phillips 66 Big 12 Player of the Week twice this season.

The 38th annual Wooden Award ceremony will honor the Men's and Women's Wooden Award winners on the weekend of April 11-12, 2014.
