Big 12 Notches 150 Track & Field All-Americans

The Big 12 Conference had 70 male and 80 female student-athletes combine for 150 Division I Outdoor Track and Field All-America accolades, announced the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Honors are awarded for performances at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships. First team USTFCCCA honors are awarded to those who earn any portion of a team point at the national championships, or reach an eight-entrant final. Second team All-America honors are handed out to those whose final placing in the national meet range from ninth to 16th place.

Texas A&M led the Conference on both sides, with 14 first team men's honorees and 13 first team women's recipients. The KU women notched 12 first team selections.

The league also racked up 34 men's second team recognitions and 33 women's second team honors.

The USFTCCCA also announced the final rankings for the 2012 outdoor season, which reflect team performances at the NCAA Championships. The Big 12 placed five men's squads and four women's teams in the top 25.
