A total of 47 entrants will represent the Big 12 Conference at the men’s and women’s NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships beginning this Friday, March 14 at the Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque, N.M.
The Texas women lead the league with nine entries. The Longhorns have the fifth-most women entries in the nation coming off a Big 12 Championship. Texas Tech places five entries into the national title meet.
On the men’s side, Oklahoma State, TCU and Texas Tech each have three event representatives with Iowa State, Kansas State and Texas following with two.
The Big 12 will have 25 individual entrants for the women and two relay entries (UT, TTU). Fifteen men comprise the men’s entrant field for the league along with two relay squads (OSU, TCU).
The Conference has three women and three men’s teams in the most recent USTFCCCA rankings, including Texas women at No. 5. Texas Tech (15) and Iowa State (20) close out the league’s women. The Cyclone men sit at No. 23 with Texas Tech and Texas following at 24th and 25th, respectively.
Last year, five from the Big 12 were crowned NCAA individual champions. The Kansas women placed second for the second consecutive year and the Texas Tech men finished highest in the league at fifth.The 2014 Indoor Track & Field season wraps up with the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 14-15. ESPN3 will stream the meet live starting at 6:55 p.m. on March 14 and 6:50 p.m. on the 15th. A tape delay of the championship will air Sunday, March 22 at 5:30 p.m. on ESPNU.
