Big 12 T&F Secures Five More Medals at NCAA Championships

Big 12 competitors secured five additional medals on day three of the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Des Moines, Iowa. The league recorded one NCAA individual crown and now has a total of 12 medals through 23 events scored on both the men's and women's side.

In team rankings, the Oklahoma women sit in third with 24 points, trailing the leaders by 16 points. The Jayhawk ladies are in a tie for fifth with 21 points, with Texas trailing in a tie for 11th. The three-time defending champion Texas A&M Aggies are in a tie for 17th through three days.

On the men's side, Texas is seventh with 19 points while Texas Tech is 12th with 14 points and Kansas State is tied for 15th with 12 points.

Earning a gold medal on the day was Tia Brooks (Oklahoma) who captured her first outdoor shot put title with a throw of 60-6. She is the first Sooner to win an outdoor national title in the event, and joins teammate Brittany Borman as the only OU females to win national crowns in field events.

Shanay Briscoe (Texas) finished second in the women's high jump, while Jamele Mason (Texas Tech) recorded a runner-up finish in the men's 400-meter hurdles.
Diamond Dixon (Kansas) earned the bronze in the women's 400-meter dash. Red Raider Gil Roberts took home third place in the 400 meters.

Texas' Danielle Dowie and Iowa State's Kianna Elahi placed sixth and seventh, respectively, in the 400-meter hurdles. OSU's Toni Young and UT's Victoria Lucas also earned some points for their respective squads as the two finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the high jump.

KU's Michael Stigler tabbed a sixth-place showing the men's 400-meter hurdles. Edward Kemboi (Iowa State) and Ricky West (Missouri) collected fifth and sixth-place honors in the 800-meter run.
