Obi, Crouser and Dixon Named Athlete of the Week
January 29, 2014

Felix Obi (Baylor) and Ryan Crouser (Texas) have been named Male Co-Athlete of the Week and Diamond Dixon (Kansas) has received Female Athlete of the Week for Big 12 Indoor Track and Field competition during Jan. 24-26.

Big 12 Indoor Track & Field Male Co-Athlete of the Week
Felix Obi, Baylor, So., El Paso, Texas
In his season debut in the triple jump, sophomore Felix Obi set a school-record and won the triple jump title at the Rod McCravy Memorial in Lexington, Ky. The El Paso, Texas native posted a leap of 53-2.75 [16.22m] on his first attempt of the day and that stood as the best jump throughout the competition. His mark stands as currently the second-best triple jump in the country and the best in the Big 12.

He bested his own previous school record that he set last year at the Big 12 Indoor Championships of 53-1 [16.18m]. Obi also placed third in the long jump competition with a season-best jump of 24-5.75 [7.46m]. He was the second-best collegiate at the meet and he currently owns the second-best long jump in the Big 12 (19th-best in the country).

Big 12 Indoor Track & Field Male Co-Athlete of the Week
Ryan Crouser, Texas, So., Boring, Ore.
Making his season debut after winning the shot put at the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Championships, Crouser captured the same event during Saturday’s action at the Cherry and Silver Collegiate Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M., with a personal-best toss of 67 feet (20.42m), the second-best mark in the nation and more than five feet better than the rest of the field. Crouser’s winning heave was also the second best indoor toss in school history, behind only Jacob Thormaehlen’s UT record mark of 67-3 1/4 (20.50m) at the 2012 NCAA Championships.

Crouser’s winning toss came on his fourth attempt and all but one of his six throws (all legal) would have won the event and would all rank among the top 20 on the 2014 national performers list. His second-best toss – 66-7 (20.29m) – ranks tied for third in school history with his previous indoor best set at the 2012 Razorback Invitational. In fact, four of the five-time All-American’s six throws rank among the top eight indoor marks in school history (also 65-6/19.96m and 65-5.50/19.95m).

Big 12 Indoor Track & Field Female Athlete of the Week
Diamond Dixon, Kansas, Sr., Houston, Texas
Dixon posted another conference-leading time last Friday as she took part in the Jayhawk Classic in Lawrence. The senior out of Houston was the top collegiate finisher in her first 400-meter race of the season, finishing in a time of 53.97. The time converts to the NCAA standard of 53.26 which is the fastest in the Big 12 and No. 4 in the national ranks so far this season. Dixon then helped her 4x400-meter relay team to a victory and season-best time of 3:45.16.
