Seniors Rico Loy and Dani Stack have been awarded Big 12 Runners of the Week. It is the first conference weekly award for both student-athletes and only the second time a pair of Cyclones have swept the weekly honor.
Rico Loy, Iowa State, Sr., Bad Wildbad, Germany
With a mark of 24:29, Loy ran his best time at his fourth and final Roy Griak Invitational. Loy placed 13th overall and helped the Cyclone men to their highest team finish at the meet since 2009. Loy was only three seconds faster than sophomore teammate Martin Coolidge, but beat his Big 12 competition by 20 seconds. Iowa State finished sixth, competing against 24 teams, including four nationally-ranked squads.
Dani Stack, Iowa State, Sr., Mankato, Minn.
Stack led the eighth-ranked Iowa State women in reclaiming the team title at the Roy Griak Invitational this past Saturday. With a sub-21 minute time on the 6,000-meter course, Stack finished eighth and was the first of any Big 12 runners to cross the finish line. Stack helped pace the Cyclones to their third victory of the season. Iowa State beat six of the top 30 ranked teams in the nation, including Arizona, Washington, Penn State, BYU, Minnesota and Vanderbilt.
