Lutz, Nelson Earn Big 12 Runner of the Week Honors

Freshman Craig Lutz (Texas) and junior Meaghan Nelson (Iowa State) have garnered Big 12 Runner of the Week honors. It is the first weekly award for both student-athletes. Nelson is the second Iowa State female to receive the honor this season.

Competing against 21 of the nation's top 30 ranked teams on Saturday, Lutz led the Texas men to a sixth place finish at the Wisconsin Adidas Invitational in Madison, Wis. Lutz had the best finish among Big 12 runners with a 15th-place showing, completing the course in a time of 23:47. The Longhorns were the only unranked team last week to finish in the top 15. His race vaulted Texas to an 11th place ranking this week.

Meaghan Nelson, Iowa State, Jr., Cedar Rapids, Iowa
Nelson paced the Cyclone women to a ninth-place finish at one of the nation's most competitive meets on Saturday. Crossing the finish line ninth in a time of 20:18.30, Nelson was one of three Iowa State runners to finish in the top 20 at the Wisconsin Adidas Invitational. The Cyclone women ran against 19 other nationally ranked teams.
