The Big 12 Conference has named 134 student-athletes to the 2011 Academic All-Big 12 Cross Country Team, the league office announced.
Among those honored, 10 were nominated with a 4.00 grade point average. The men's student-athletes with a perfect GPA include Blake Niccum (Baylor), Jeremy Sudbury (Oklahoma) and Will Barry (Texas A&M). Sarah Swenson (Kansas State), Maggie Priebe (Missouri), Hilary Krein (Oklahoma), Caleigh Glenn (Oklahoma State) posted a 4.00 on the women's side. Texas' trio of Julie Amthor, Megan Siebert and Ginny Simon also recorded a 4.00 GPA.
Kansas and Oklahoma State led with nine overall men's selections, while Baylor's 11 honorees was the most on the women's side overall.
A total of 62 men's student-athletes were honored, 47 first team selections and 15 second team honorees. For the women, 72 individuals collected honors with 58 first team designations and 14 second team.
First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence.
Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
