Big 12 Cross Country Teams Headed to NCAA Regionals

The Big 12 men's and women's cross country teams will compete at NCAA Regionals on Saturday, Nov. 13, for a chance to advance to the 2011 NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Ind. The conference has four men's and three women's teams ranked nationally heading into competition.

Baylor will play host to a regional meet for the fourth-consecutive year and eighth time in the last nine years. The South Central Regional will feature Baylor, Texas and Texas A&M. The men's 10K will begin at 10 a.m., with the women's to follow at 11:15 a.m.

Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State will travel to Dekalb, Ill., to participate in the Midwest Regional. The Cyclone women will look to defend their 2010 regional team title and have been ranked first in the Midwest for 19 straight weeks. The men's 10K is scheduled to begin at noon, and the women's 6K will start immediately after at 1:15 p.m. Texas Tech heads west to Provo, Utah, for the Mountain Regional.

In the latest edition of the USTFCCCA national rankings, No. 2 OSU leads the league on the men's side after winning its fourth-straight Big 12 Championship title. The Cowboys are trailed by fifth-ranked Oklahoma, 11th-ranked Texas and 24th-ranked Texas A&M. Big 12 Champion and 10th-ranked Iowa State is the front-runner for the women. Texas and Oklahoma State round out the Big 12 women's squads coming in 14th and 23rd, respectively.

The NCAA Cross Country Championships will be held Monday, Nov. 21, in Terre Haute, Ind. The top two teams from each regional earn automatic bids to the event, and the top four runners not associated with qualifying teams will advance as individuals. All teams and individuals will be announced on Sunday, Nov. 13.
