August 30, 2012

Seven Big 12 Cross Country teams earned rankings in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association preseason poll.

On the men's side, Oklahoma State garnered the No. 2 spot, matching its finish in last season's final rankings. The Cowboys took home their fourth consecutive Big 12 Championship in 2011 and capped off the year with a second-place showing at the NCAA Championships.

Oklahoma is ranked fourth, moving up two spots from where they finished a year ago, while Texas ranks sixth.

For the women, Iowa State leads the Big 12 contenders at No. 5. The Cyclones placed seventh in last year's NCAA Championships, marking their best national finish since 1985. Big 12 newcomer West Virginia comes in at No. 21, while the Oklahoma State women rank No. 24. Rounding out the women's group is Texas at No. 26.
