Big 12 Teams Dominate NCAA Regionals

Three Big 12 men's cross country teams and three women's squads have qualified for the 2012 NCAA Championships, which will be held on Saturday, Nov. 17, in Louisville, Ky.

The league dominated in the Midwest Regional, as the Oklahoma and Oklahoma State men tied for the top spot, each finishing with a total time of 2:32:52. The share for the first-place finish was the first ever in Midwest Regional history. The Big 12 men took five of the top seven spots individually, led by Oklahoma State's Girma Mecheso who finished second.

On the women's side, Iowa State claimed their third straight regional title, while Oklahoma State placed second. Betsy Saina (Iowa State) took the top spot individually, completing the 6K in 19:51. Fellow Cyclone Meaghan Nelson followed in fifth, while Jessica Engel (Oklahoma), Laura Galvan (Kansas State) and Monika Juodeskaite (Oklahoma State) earned top-10 spots.

In the South Central Regional, the Texas men claimed the team title, with four top-10 finishers. The Longhorn women took home second place, with juniors Marielle Hall and Sara Sutherland taking the top two spots individually.

Texas Tech's Kennedy Kithuka took first place in the men's Mountain Regional, earning an individual bid to the NCAA Championships.

Three individual women tallied NCAA bids including Agnes Kemboi (TCU), Jessica Engel (Oklahoma) and Sarah-Anne Brault (West Virginia).
