West Virginia Leads Weekly Gymnastics Honors

Hope Sloanhoffer (West Virginia), Alaska Richardson (West Virginia) and Haley Scaman (Oklahoma) have earned the Big 12 weekly gymnastics awards for competition through March 4. Sloanhoffer is the Gymnast of the Week recipient for the first time, while Richardson and Scaman are named Event Specialist of the Week and Newcomer of the Week, respectively. This is the fifth recognition for Scaman and third for Richardson.

BIG 12 GYMNAST OF THE WEEK
Hope Sloanhoffer, West Virginia, Jr., Cornwall, N.Y.
Sloanhoffer won her first all-around competition of the season with a 39.225 effort against No. 13 Denver, George Washington and Temple. It was her second-best score of the year. The junior paced the team on beam and finished second overall with a season-high 9.875 score. WVU finished first on beam with a season-high 49.225 score, its best mark since scoring a program-best 49.55 on March 9, 2004. She also finished seventh on bars with a 9.775 and  10th on vault and floor with respective 9.775 and 9.8 scores. Sloanhoffer's vault mark helped WVU win the event with a 49.05 score. She currently ranks No. 31 in the nation, No. 4 in the southeast region and No. 5 in the Big 12 in the all-around.

BIG 12 EVENT SPECIALIST OF THE WEEK
Alaska Richardson, West Virginia, Sr., Dayton, Ohio
Richardson continues to excel in her two events, tying for the vault win and finishing third on floor against No. 13 Denver, George Washington and Temple with the meet's second-best score. She tallied 9.9 on floor, her fourth mark of 9.9 or better this season, and earned a 9.95 from one judge. The senior tied for the vault win with a 9.875 mark. She hasn't scored below 9.8 on vault all season and her vault score helped the Mountaineers tally a winning 49.05 mark. Richardson's floor performance helped the team to a 49.275 point total, its second highest of 2013. She currently ranks No. 39 in the nation, No. 5 in the southeast region and No. 5 in the Big 12 on floor.

BIG 12 NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK
Haley Scaman, Oklahoma, Fr., Riverside, Ill.
Scaman tied a career high on vault with a 9.9 to help OU to a top 10 all-time team score on the event at Texas Women's University on Friday. The freshman also recorded a 9.85 on floor, helping her maintain her No. 4 nationally ranking.
