Green, Musgrave & Lorenzana Tabbed Weekly Award Recipients
RELATED LINKS

Gage Green (Oklahoma State), Harrison Musgrave (West Virginia) and Hector Lorenzana (Oklahoma) are this week’s Big 12 baseball weekly award recipients for games played May 6-12.

Green earns his first career Player of the Week honor, while Lorenzana is the first Sooner to earn Newcomer of the Week this year. Musgrave joins Ryan Rupe (Texas A&M, 1998) as the only pitcher to garner four Pitcher of the Week awards in a single season. Only nine players all-time have earned the award four or more times in their career.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Gage Green, Oklahoma State, OF/C, Wichita Falls, Texas/Rider
Green led Oklahoma State to a Bedlam Series win over 13th-ranked Oklahoma as the sophomore was 7-for-10 at the plate against the Sooners last weekend. He scored three runs, collected two doubles and two RBI and turned in a .900 slugging percentage.

In Friday’s series opener in Tulsa, Green tied a career high with three hits in a 3-for-4 performance, and his two-out, RBI single in the top of the eighth inning brought home the winning run in a 4-3 victory. Green also started at catcher in the game in place of an injured Victor Romero, marking just the fourth start behind the plate for a player who generally plays left field.

On Saturday, Green was 1-for-2 and played a pivotal role in helping OSU seal a series-clinching win late in the contest. With OSU leading 3-2, Green led off the top of the eighth with a double and advanced to third on an error. Then, with two outs, Green stole home to push the Cowboys’ lead to two in a game OSU eventually won 4-3.

Green closed out the Bedlam Series with another 3-for-4 effort and added an RBI in a one-run loss. With his hot-hitting weekend, Green raised his batting average 31 points to .307.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Harrison Musgrave, West Virginia, So., LHP, Bridgeport, W.Va./Bridgeport High
Musgrave led the Mountaineers to a 2-0 win in game one against TCU with a complete game shutout, allowing just three hits in 9.0 innings. Musgrave struck out a career-high 14, walking just one, in the 143 pitch effort (104 strikes). His 14 strikeouts were a single-season high in the Big 12 this season. Musgrave retired the Horned Frogs in order in the first, second, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh innings, including a streak of 15 consecutive batters from the third to the eighth innings.

For the season, Musgrave is 8-1 with a 2.14 ERA in 13 starts with three complete games, three shutouts and 76 strikeouts. He is currently riding a seven-game winning streak and has yet to lose in Big 12 play, posting a 5-0 record. In conference play, he has a 1.02 ERA, striking out 61 in 53.0 innings and has allowed just six earned runs. In the conference only rankings, he is first in wins (5), opponent batting average (.145), shutouts (3) and complete games (3), while ranking second in ERA (1.02), innings pitched (53.0) and strikeouts (61).

NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK
Hector Lorenzana, Oklahoma, Jr., 2B, San Diego, Calif./Howard College
Lorenzana accounted for eight of the 11 runs Oklahoma scored in its Bedlam Series matchup with Oklahoma State last weekend. The junior transfer batted .455 (5-of-11) with three runs scored and six runs batted in. On Friday, Lorenzana plated all three Sooner runs in one swing with a game-tying homer in the fourth inning. In game two, the infielder was 3-for-4 with two RBI as he cut a 3-0 OSU lead to one run in the sixth inning. In the series finale, while trailing 4-1 in the fourth, he smacked an RBI double and scored one at-bat later to ignite OU’s rally.
