Sooners Clinch Third Big 12 Women’s Golf Title
April 27, 2014

AUSTIN, Texas -- The Oklahoma Sooners broke championship records on the way to their third Big 12 Women’s Golf Championship on Sunday.

The Sooners fired off a record-breaking 10-under-par 278 final round, seven-strokes better than Iowa State’s 2011 mark of 285, to claim the crown. This was not the only record OU broke on the day. Oklahoma set a new low 54-hole team score with 861. OU’s score of 861 breaks Texas’ 2011 record of 872.

After taking the lead on the first day of the tournament, Oklahoma never looked back. The Sooners finished 17-strokes ahead of second-place Texas (878).

Baylor finished third (884) with Iowa State and Kansas tied at fourth with a score of 886.

Oklahoma was led by Chirapat Jao-Javanil’s 7-under-par 209, the second lowest 54-hole player score in Big 12 history, as she claimed the individual title. Jao-Javanil shot a 68 in the final round to steal the top spot away from Texas’ Natalie Karcher who finished tied for second with Kansas’ Yupaporn Kawinpakorn (211).

Baylor’s Laura Lonardi and Iowa State’s Chonlada Chayanun tied for fourth with a 54-hole 216 score. Oklahoma’s Alexandra Kaui and Kaitlyn Rohrback tied for sixth. Rounding out the Big 12 All-Tournament team was OU’s Emily Collins (eighth place) and OSU’s Amy Ruengmateekhun and ISU’s Sasikarn On-Iam, finishing tied for ninth.

The top 10 finishers, including ties, are named to the All-Tournament squad.

Selections for the NCAA Regionals will be announced Monday, April 28 from 5-6 p.m. CT during Golf Central, Golf Channel’s daily signature news show, with dedicated segments airing throughout.
