TRINITY, Texas - Texas A&M leads the field after the first two rounds of the 2012 Big 12 Men's Golf Championship at Whispering Pines Golf Club in Trinity, Texas.
The Aggies, who finished second the past two years, established a two-stroke lead with a 2-under-par round of 286.
Oklahoma sits in second, just two shots back, while Texas Tech finished day one in third and six strokes off the lead. Texas, the No. 1 ranked team in the nation, is in fourth place after shooting a 594 card after two rounds. Reigning champion Oklahoma State sits in eighth.
Oklahoma's Abraham Ancer is on top of the individual leader board finishing with a 3-under-par total of 141. The Sooner recorded eight birdies through the two rounds. Texas A&M's Johannes Veerma sits in second, just one stroke shy of the leader at 142 (-2).
Tied for third is Jordan Spieth (Texas) and Matias Dominguez (Texas Tech) at 1-under-par 143. Spieth carded 10 birdies through 36 holes, the most of any golfer on the day. Dominguez was the leader after the conclusion of the first 18 holes.
OU's Michael Gellerman was the only golfer to eagle through 36 holes. The freshman recorded the feat on a par-4, 392-yard hole.
The third round gets underway Saturday at 8 a.m. with Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Texas Tech and Texas teeing off the first hole while Baylor, Iowa State, Kansas State and Oklahoma State will begin their rounds on the 10th. Missouri and Kansas and will be split between the two holes.
