Ian Davis (Oklahoma State) and Lauren Taylor (Baylor) have been named October's Big 12 Golfers of the Month. Taylor is the first freshman to win the award since Baylor's Hayley Davis took home the honor last September.
Ian Davis, Oklahoma State, Jr., Edmond, Okla.
Davis made his first start of the season at the Jack Nicklaus Invitational, earning his first career top 10. The junior finished tied for sixth place after posting a 5-over 149 total that included rounds of 71 and 78. Davis earned his first career victory at the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate and became the first Cowboy medalist since the 2011 NCAA Colorado Regional. He opened with a career-best 66 and followed with a 69 before closing with a 71. The win also helped OSU to its first team title since that same NCAA Regional.
Lauren Taylor, Baylor, Fr., Rugby, England
The true freshman shot five of six rounds at or below par, and a 1-over par in her only other round. Taylor recorded a 5-under-par 211 at the Alamo Invitational, posting the best score by any Baylor player this season. She turned in back-to-back top-5 finishes while carding a career-low 69 in the second round at the Alamo Invitational. Taylor completed the fall season with a 71.00 stroke average in final rounds, 72.75 stroke average in second rounds and 74.00 stroke average in first rounds.
