2014 Big 12 Women’s Golf Postseason Awards Announced

With the 2013-14 women’s golf regular season wrapped up, the sport’s postseason award winners have been determined.

Oklahoma State sophomore Julie Yang garners Big 12 Player of the Year honors. She is currently ranked 41st nationally after finishing in a tie for 15th at the Big 12 Championship. Yang leads the Cowgirls with a 73.38 adjusted scoring average on the year. The Seoul, South Korea native has recorded five top-15 finishes this season.

Freshman of the Year honors went to Oklahoma’s Alexandra Kaui, who finished tied-for-sixth at the Big 12 Championship and helped lead the Sooners to their third Big 12 title in school history.

The Big 12 Player and Freshman of the Year are automatically selected as the highest ranked individual’s from the Golfstat rankings following the league championship.

Oklahoma head coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell earned her second-career Coach of the Year accolade, as voted on by the league’s coaches. Luttrell guided the Sooners to a record-breaking low 54-hole team score of 861 at the Big 12 Championship, as four OU golfers finished in the top eight at this year’s event. Oklahoma, ranked seventh nationally, will compete at NCAA Regionals as the No. 3 seed in the West Region, held in Cle Elum, Washington.

A total of six institutions placed student-athletes on the All-Big 12 Team. Iowa State, Kansas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, TCU and Texas each had golfers named to the squad. The Jayhawks were represented by Yupaporn Kawinpakorn, while Oklahoma led the league with three representatives in Kaui, Chirapat Jao-Javanl, Anne-Catherine Tanguay. Jayde Panos joined Yang as Oklahoma State’s honorees, while Sasikarn On-Iam and Chonlada Chayanun were Iowa State’s representatives. TCU’s Sanna Nuutinen and Texas’ Bertine Struass rounded out the list of honorees.

The team was identified using the top 10 highest-ranked golfers according to the Golfstat rankings following the Big 12 Championship.
