NCBWA Preseason Poll Features Four Big 12 Squads
January 29, 2013
Four Big 12 baseball teams are ranked in the 2013 NCBWA preseason poll. TCU and Oklahoma, ranked in the three other national polls, sit at No. 13 and No. 17, respectively. Texas checks in at No. 26 while Baylor is ranked No. 27.

Oklahoma State and Texas Tech are receiving votes.

TCU is the highest ranked league team in all four national polls with a No. 12 ranking in the USA Today Coaches' Poll and a No. 14 spot by Collegiate Baseball and Baseball America. Oklahoma is ranked as high as No. 16 by USA Today.

The Sooners finished last season with a 42-25 record, while TCU ended the year at 40-22. Last season was Oklahoma's third Super Regional appearance and marked its fourth straight season with 40-plus wins. The Horned Frogs also advanced to the Super Regional for the third time overall after winning four games in a regional for the first time in school history.

Texas snapped a streak of 13 consecutive NCAA Championship appearances by missing last year's field.

Baylor's 18-0 start in league play last season shattered the previous record for the best start in Conference history (Texas, 7-0, 1999). The Bears claimed their third regular season crown (2005, ‘00) and led the Big 12 in wins for the first time in league history while also ranking first in batting average, slugging percentage, hits, runs, doubles, home runs and RBI. Individually, Steve Smith (Coach of the Year), Josh Ludy (Player of the Year) and Nathan Orf (Newcomer of the Year) collected Big 12 postseason awards.

The 2013 Big 12 baseball season begins on Friday, Feb. 15, with league play starting the weekend of March 15.
