Ah, the life of a college basketball coach. The good times are filled with adulation, satisfying victories, lots of benefits and, of course, a robust pay check. The bad times involve the gut-wrenching losses, the knee jerk criticism and convincing teen age basketball stars to sign letters of intent.
And then there are good times like Sunday night. Kansas coach Bill Self was invited to play in the Celebrity All-Star game in Kansas City, part of the All-Star weekend festivities. When he was an assistant coach, he played a lot of softball around the Stillwater area.
The game will be replayed by ESPN Monday night. Self will probably having a watch party at his house with the DVR set to record. Why? In his first at bat, he lined a home run to left center. His locker was next to Bo Jackson and he got a hug from Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Chrissy Teigen.
Yeah, tough life, isn't it? (The fact he was booed by Missouri fans was a minor irritation.)
